The short answer

Does IPVanish work for streaming in 2026?

Yes. IPVanish leads our Netflix ranking but is fifth for streaming overall. In our research (October 2026), its 83% across all Netflix libraries is the highest of the seven VPNs we cover. It scores 99% with Disney+ and 91% with Hulu (US). BBC iPlayer (UK), at 62%, and Prime Video, at 67%, hold it back for streaming. A score of 100% means all the recent evidence we gathered says the VPN works.

Key takeaways

  • IPVanish leads our Netflix ranking, with the highest Netflix research score across all libraries of the seven VPNs we cover: 83% in October 2026.
  • IPVanish is fifth for streaming: in our October 2026 research it scores 62% with BBC iPlayer (UK) and 67% with Prime Video.
  • One IPVanish account allows unlimited devices at once for personal use (IPVanish says unmetered), but it offers no static or dedicated IP.
  • IPVanish has apps for Fire TV Sticks on Fire OS and on the newer Vega OS, but the Vega OS app has no split tunneling.
  • The 30-day money-back guarantee covers only first-time plans of a year or longer bought on IPVanish's website.

IPVanish works with Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu (US) in our research (October 2026), and less well with BBC iPlayer (UK) and Prime Video. Its Netflix research score across all libraries is the highest of the seven VPNs we cover. The sections below show how that plays out in our rankings, then cover its Fire TV apps, unlimited devices, US-dollar prices and owner, Ziff Davis.

IPVanish tops our Netflix ranking and sits fifth in the streaming and Fire TV ones. Netflix is the only service that ranking looks at, so IPVanish's 83% across all libraries puts it ahead of ExpressVPN, at 78%. The other two also count BBC iPlayer (UK) and Prime Video, its weakest services, and on Fire TV its Vega OS app lacks split tunneling.

Positions among the seven VPNs we cover, scores out of 10. A VPN with too little research data for a use case is not ranked there. Our research, 19 October 2026.

The score combines how well each VPN works in practice in our research, device compatibility, features, and price and refunds. How we rank explains how rankings work on this site.

IPVanish is strongest on Disney+, Hulu and Netflix, weakest on BBC iPlayer

In our research (October 2026), IPVanish scores 99% with Disney+, 91% with Hulu (US) and 83% with Netflix across all libraries. Its two weakest services are Prime Video, at 67%, and BBC iPlayer (UK), at 62%. There is not enough data for HBO Max. Our best VPN for Disney+ page ranks IPVanish with the six other VPNs we cover.

Source: whatworks.tech research, October 2026. "Not enough data" means too little recent evidence for a score. Checked October 2026.

By Netflix library, IPVanish scores 85% for the UK, 84% for the US and 83% for Japan, with not enough data for Germany. Its 83% across all libraries is the highest of the seven VPNs we cover, yet it is not first in any of these libraries. The all-libraries score also counts other countries and evidence that named no country, and IPVanish's library scores sit close together, from 83% to 85%. NordVPN scores higher for the US (87%), Proton VPN for Japan (85%), and Proton VPN (91%) and ExpressVPN (88%) for the UK.

Every VPN's score for each library is in the Netflix table by library.

Why IPVanish ranks fifth although it leads on Netflix

IPVanish ranks fifth for streaming because that ranking looks at every main service, not Netflix alone. With BBC iPlayer (UK) and Prime Video, IPVanish scores well below the four picks ranked above it.

Averaged across the services where each VPN has a score, IPVanish's research scores are lower than those of all four picks above it for streaming. The table compares IPVanish with the highest score among those four picks, in order: ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN.

The gap is widest on BBC iPlayer (UK) and Prime Video, where all four picks above IPVanish score 85% or more. Outside the scores, IPVanish's Apple TV app needs tvOS 18, where theirs need tvOS 17. Its money-back guarantee also covers only first-time plans of a year or longer bought on its website.

IPVanish apps cover Fire TV, Android TV and Apple TV from tvOS 18, not Roku

On Fire TV, IPVanish has one app for Fire OS and another for Vega OS. Android TV gets its app through Google Play, and Apple TV has one too. Roku has no IPVanish app, and we found none for Samsung or LG TVs.

  • App available
  • App with limits IPVanish or the store lists
  • No app
  • Not documented by IPVanish

Android TV and Google TVAppIPVanish offers an Android TV app through Google Play.
Apple TVAppIPVanish has an Apple TV app in the tvOS App Store; the store listing requires tvOS 18.0 or later, higher than the tvOS 17 minimum of the other providers.
Roku, Samsung and LG TVsNo appIPVanish says Roku cannot connect to its VPN by itself and needs a VPN router or a shared connection from a computer; no IPVanish app for Samsung or LG TVs was found.

Source: IPVanish's help pages and app store listings. Checked October 2026.

IPVanish's Apple TV app needs tvOS 18 or later, according to its App Store listing. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Proton VPN and Surfshark ask for tvOS 17. Apple's current release is tvOS 27, and MacRumors reports that the Apple TV HD and the first Apple TV 4K stay on tvOS 26. Both are above tvOS 18, so an Apple TV still on tvOS 17 needs a software update before IPVanish installs.

IPVanish says a Roku cannot connect to its VPN by itself, so it needs a VPN router or a connection shared from a computer. We found no IPVanish app for Samsung or LG TVs, and no IPVanish Smart DNS service. Smart DNS, offered by some VPN companies for TVs without a VPN app, swaps the TV's address-lookup (DNS) server for the provider's on chosen streaming sites. For any of these TVs, a Fire TV, Android TV or Apple TV device plugged into the TV can run IPVanish's own app.

IPVanish on a Firestick: Fire OS and Vega OS apps, with gaps on Vega OS

IPVanish has apps for Fire TV Sticks on either system, Fire OS or the newer Vega OS, and both come from the Amazon Appstore. To see which system your stick runs, open Settings › My Fire TV › About. AFTVnews says a software version that starts with 1 or 2 means Vega OS. The two apps differ:

  • On Fire OS, IPVanish says its app needs a second-generation Fire TV Stick or newer.
  • On Vega OS, the app has no split tunneling (a setting that lets apps you choose skip the VPN), no protocol switching and no launch at startup.
  • Sign-in works with a username and password, or a QR code scanned with another device. The QR code does not show on the Vega OS Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) or Fire TV Stick HD (2026).
  • To install either app, search for IPVanish in the Amazon Appstore. The step-by-step Firestick install guide covers both systems.

The research scores above cover IPVanish on any device, Fire TV included.

IPVanish allows unlimited devices, but offers no static IP and we found no Smart DNS

One IPVanish account can cover every TV, phone and computer in a home: IPVanish says simultaneous connections are unmetered, meaning unlimited, for personal use. IPVanish does not sell a static or dedicated IP address, and we found no IPVanish Smart DNS service.

Because Vega OS blocks apps from outside the Appstore, the Kill Switch app is for Fire OS sticks only. On a second-generation Fire TV Stick, IPVanish's app runs but its Kill Switch app does not.

IPVanish's Fire TV app picks Fastest Available unless you choose a country

Pressing CONNECT in IPVanish's Fire OS app picks its Fastest Available location, so for a country's catalog, choose a server in that country first. Netflix, for example, shows the catalog of the country it thinks you are in. Built from IPVanish's description of the Fire OS app, the steps are:

  1. Open IPVanish and sign in with your username and password, or with the QR code.
  2. Select the Locations icon at the lower left of the screen.
  3. Open Countries and choose the country whose catalog you want. Cities shows each server's ping (response time) and load (how busy it is).
  4. The first time you connect, select OK to let IPVanish re-route your traffic. IPVanish says the warning about monitoring is a standard Fire OS message.
  5. Optional: Fire TV shows no VPN icon, so open iplocation.com or our VPN check in the Downloader app's browser and check that the location matches your IPVanish server.
  6. Open the streaming app and play a title from that country's catalog.

On a Vega OS stick, choose the country in the app's Locations list, then press the central power button to connect. To switch country, disconnect first.

IPVanish's help pages suggest taking streaming apps off the VPN

For Prime Video, Netflix and Hulu, IPVanish's help pages suggest split tunneling. It routes those apps outside the VPN, so they work as they would without one. The pages add that Prime Video "blocks based on VPN server IP address pools".

In practice, that advice means watching those three services without the VPN, from your real location. Our research (October 2026) gives a different picture for two of them: IPVanish scores 83% with Netflix across all libraries and 91% with Hulu (US). Prime Video, at 67%, is IPVanish's second-weakest service. So for another country's Netflix, or for Hulu outside the US, keep the app on the VPN and pick a server in that country.

IPVanish's Amazon Appstore listing points the other way: it promises users can "Access online media from anywhere".

IPVanish prices are in US dollars, and refunds need a yearly plan

On 6 October 2026, IPVanish showed a visitor from the EU its prices in US dollars for three plans: Essential, Complete and Advanced. The table lists every plan and term we captured, as that visitor saw them, with renewal prices: all three are two-year plans that renew yearly. We found no free IPVanish plan.

IPVanish's 30-day money-back guarantee covers only first-time subscriptions of a year or longer bought on its website. A monthly plan, a renewal or a plan bought in an app does not qualify. The iOS and Android apps offer a 7-day free trial on yearly plans instead. To keep the refund option, buy a yearly or two-year plan on IPVanish's website.
