As of October 2026, CyberGhost works with some streaming services and ranks last of the seven ranked VPNs for streaming. In our research it scores 88% with Hulu (US), but 33% with BBC iPlayer (UK) and 35% with Disney+. It is still reasonable for Hulu (US) viewers who want a 45-day refund, and the section on who CyberGhost fits says when to pick another VPN.
CyberGhost is the last ranked VPN in all seven of the rankings below where it has a position. A ranking leaves out a VPN when our research has too little data on it: CyberGhost for Prime Video and HBO Max, and Private Internet Access for Fire TV. On Netflix, CyberGhost's 64% across all libraries equals Surfshark's. It still ranks below Surfshark, mostly because of apps: it has none for Apple TV and none found for Vega OS.
| Our ranking | CyberGhost's position | Score |
|---|---|---|
| VPNs for streaming | 7th | 5.8/10 |
| VPNs for Netflix | 7th | 6.6/10 |
| VPNs for a Fire TV Stick | 6th | 6.0/10 |
| VPNs for every device | 7th | 6.5/10 |
| VPNs for BBC iPlayer (UK) | 6th | 4.8/10 |
| VPNs for Prime Video | Not ranked | Not enough data |
| VPNs for Disney+ | 7th | 4.9/10 |
| VPNs for HBO Max | Not ranked | Not enough data |
| VPNs for Hulu (US) | 6th | 8.1/10 |
Positions among the seven VPNs we cover, scores out of 10. A VPN with too little research data for a use case is not ranked there. Our research, 19 October 2026.
The score combines how well each VPN works in practice in our research, device compatibility, features, and price and refunds. How we rank explains how rankings work on this site.
CyberGhost's best service is Hulu, and its weakest are BBC iPlayer and Disney+
Hulu (US) is CyberGhost's best service in our research (October 2026), and BBC iPlayer (UK) and Disney+ are its weakest. Our research has too little data for a CyberGhost score with Prime Video, HBO Max or YouTube TV. The table gives every score. To see how the other six VPNs score, read our Disney+ ranking.
A research score summarizes the recent evidence we gathered about CyberGhost with one service, for one country's library (that country's catalog of the service) or for all libraries together. A score of 100% means all the recent evidence we gathered says the VPN works. A lower score means some of it says the service blocked CyberGhost, or that it worked on some servers only. The scores cover CyberGhost on any device, and they do not cover its Smart DNS.
| Service and library | CyberGhost in our research |
|---|---|
| Netflix (all libraries) | 64% |
| Netflix (US) | 69% |
| Netflix (UK) | 70% |
| Netflix (Japan) | 70% |
| Netflix (Germany) | Not enough data |
| BBC iPlayer (UK) | 33% |
| Prime Video (all libraries) | Not enough data |
| Disney+ (all libraries) | 35% |
| Disney+ (US) | 36% |
| HBO Max (all libraries) | Not enough data |
| Hulu (US) | 88% |
| YouTube TV (US) | Not enough data |
Source: whatworks.tech research, October 2026. 100% means all recent evidence says CyberGhost works with that service or library. "Not enough data" means too little recent evidence for a score. Checked October 2026.
For all three services, CyberGhost has the lowest research score of the VPNs that have one. The table shows which VPNs score higher.
| Service | CyberGhost | Higher-scoring VPNs |
|---|---|---|
| Hulu (US) | 88% | ExpressVPN and Surfshark 100%, NordVPN 98%, Proton VPN 96%, IPVanish 91% |
| BBC iPlayer (UK) | 33% | ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN 100% each, IPVanish 62% |
| Disney+ | 35% | ExpressVPN, NordVPN and IPVanish 99% each, Surfshark 88%, Proton VPN 73%, Private Internet Access 39% |

Under Disney's US agreement (updated 17 October 2025), Hulu is available only in the United States and some of its territories, so use a US server for it.
CyberGhost with Netflix: last in our Netflix ranking, with three libraries scored
CyberGhost has a research score of 64% for Netflix across all libraries, 69% for the US, 70% for the UK and 70% for Japan. Germany and the other libraries have too little data for a score. Our Netflix ranking puts CyberGhost seventh, the last of seven.
By library, the UK score is the lowest of the six VPNs with one. For the US, CyberGhost scores above only Private Internet Access (67%), and for Japan above only Surfshark (53%). Every VPN's score by Netflix library is on the Netflix page.
- Whichever VPN you use, Netflix says VPNs are not supported on its ad-supported plan or for live events.
- If Netflix shows error E106, the E106 steps for VPN users include trying a streaming server, such as the Streaming tab in CyberGhost's Fire TV app.
CyberGhost's TV apps cover Fire OS and Android TV, with none for Apple TV or Vega OS found
As of 6 October 2026, CyberGhost has a Fire TV app for Fire OS 6 or later, and its setup steps name second-generation sticks or newer. Fire OS is Amazon's Android-based Fire TV system, and some newer sticks run Vega OS instead. CyberGhost also has an Android TV app for Android 7.0 or later. It has no Apple TV app, we found no Vega OS app, and it lists no Roku, Samsung or LG app.
- App available
- App with limits CyberGhost documents
- No app
- Not documented by CyberGhost
| Platform | App | What CyberGhost documents |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV on Fire OS | App | CyberGhost has a Fire TV app in the Amazon Appstore for Fire OS 6 (Android 7.0 or later). |
| Fire TV on Vega OS | No app | No CyberGhost Vega OS app was found: CyberGhost lists Fire TV only as Fire OS 6, and its Amazon listing shows a single Android 7.0+ build (v8.42.4) with no Vega mention. |
| Android TV and Google TV | App | CyberGhost offers an Android TV app through Google Play for Android 7.0 or later. |
| Apple TV | No app | CyberGhost still has no Apple TV app: its App Store listing (v8.8.0, 2 Oct 2026) is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple Vision only, and Apple's lookup lists no tvOS build. |
| Roku, Samsung and LG TVs | No app | CyberGhost has no Roku, Samsung or LG app; it lists those TVs only under Smart DNS, which it says no longer works with streaming services. |
Source: CyberGhost's help pages and app store listings. Checked October 2026.
No CyberGhost Vega OS app was found. CyberGhost lists Fire TV only as Fire OS 6, and its Amazon Appstore listing shows one build for Android 7.0 or later with no mention of Vega OS. To check your stick, open Settings › My Fire TV › About. AFTVnews says a version starting with 1 or 2 means Vega OS, which matches Amazon's spec table. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark, Proton VPN and IPVanish all have a Vega OS app, and the Vega OS gaps by provider show what each leaves out.
On Apple TV, CyberGhost's App Store listing (version 8.8.0, 2 October 2026) names iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple Vision only. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN have Apple TV apps for tvOS 17, and IPVanish for tvOS 18.
CyberGhost lists Roku, Samsung and LG TVs only under its Smart DNS, so those TVs need another route:
- Plug a Fire TV Stick on Fire OS, or an Android TV box, into the TV and run CyberGhost's app on it.
- Set up a router by hand with CyberGhost's OpenVPN files, which takes some technical work. Router makers say a VPN on the router covers every connected device, including TVs that cannot run an app.
CyberGhost on a Fire TV Stick: its Streaming tab is unproven, so buy on its website
CyberGhost's Fire TV app has a Streaming tab beside Countries and Favorites, but our research scores do not separate it from other servers, so we cannot say whether it helps. The power button connects to Best Location, which CyberGhost's help describes as chosen by distance, load and response speed. CyberGhost's help says to use a server in the country where you are.
The app signs you in with a PIN to validate in your CyberGhost web account's Download Hub, or with "Open regular login" for your email or username and password. New users can tap "New user?" and buy a plan in the app, but the refund section explains why to buy on CyberGhost's website instead.
Once connected, the main screen shows the country, server name and IP address, and gear › VPN › Run test starts CyberGhost's Connection Checker. The guide to picking a country on a Fire TV Stick shows where each app puts its server list.
CyberGhost says its Smart DNS no longer works with streaming
CyberGhost still lets you switch on Smart DNS, but several help pages say it "is no longer compatible with streaming services". Smart DNS swaps the DNS servers in a device's network settings, so address lookups for chosen sites go to the provider's servers. CyberGhost, NordVPN and ExpressVPN all say it does not encrypt your traffic or change your IP address.
CyberGhost also says Smart DNS and its VPN cannot run at the same time. Going by its own pages, a TV with no CyberGhost app has no CyberGhost route to streaming.
Other providers differ. Our research scores do not cover any Smart DNS service, so none of these can be judged on how well it works:
- Surfshark ended its Smart DNS on 2 February 2026.
- ExpressVPN says its MediaStreamer cannot change your location.
- NordVPN and Private Internet Access still offer a Smart DNS.
CyberGhost allows 7 devices at once, the lowest limit of the seven VPNs we cover
CyberGhost allows 7 simultaneous device connections on all subscriptions. Every other VPN we cover allows 10 or more on its main paid plan.
| VPN | Devices at once |
|---|---|
| CyberGhost | 7 |
| NordVPN, Proton VPN Plus | 10 |
| ExpressVPN | 10, 12 or 14, by plan |
| Surfshark, Private Internet Access | Unlimited |
| IPVanish | Unmetered, for personal use |
Source: provider pricing and help pages. Checked October 2026.
CyberGhost's other streaming features are in the next table. Split tunneling lets chosen apps skip the VPN and see your real location. A protocol is the method the app uses to connect, and a kill switch cuts your internet if the VPN drops. A Dedicated IP is an address only you use.
| Feature | What CyberGhost documents (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Split tunneling | App-by-app on Android and in the Fire TV and Android TV apps. On Windows, website exceptions instead. |
| Protocols | WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2. WireGuard and OpenVPN on Android TV and Fire TV. |
| Routers | Manual OpenVPN setup only. |
| Dedicated IP | One per account, in 21 locations, for up to 7 devices. It works inside the app only, not on routers. |
| Fire TV Wi-Fi rules | Per Wi-Fi network, you pick Ask, Protect, Disable protection or Ignore. |
| Kill switch on Fire TV | Nothing we read in its Fire TV settings guide lists one. |
Source: CyberGhost help pages and Dedicated IP FAQ. Checked October 2026.
Our research scores do not cover CyberGhost's Dedicated IP, so we cannot say whether one helps with streaming.
CyberGhost has apps for phones, Macs, Windows and Linux, with limits in the table
Beyond TVs, CyberGhost has apps for iPhone and iPad, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebooks, plus browser extensions. The limits are in the table.
| Platform | What CyberGhost documents (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| iPhone and iPad | App Store app for iOS or iPadOS 15 or later |
| Android | Google Play app for phones, tablets and TVs. Its download page says Android 5.0 or newer, but its devices article says Android 7.0 or later for Android TV and Fire TV. It does not recommend third-party APKs. |
| Windows | App for Windows 10 and 11 (PC with .NET 4.8). Windows 7 and 8 need manual setup. |
| Mac | App for Intel and Apple silicon. Its page headline says macOS 10.13 and above, but its version list names macOS 11 to 14. |
| Linux | Command-line app with no GUI, for Debian 12, Ubuntu 22.04 and Fedora 34 or newer. Other distributions need manual setup. |
| Chromebook | Google Play app, or manual OpenVPN setup if the Chromebook cannot run Android apps |
| Browser extensions | Chrome and Firefox, covering browser traffic only. Its Chrome page says Edge and Brave work too, and we read no separate Edge page. |

CyberGhost's help says to stay in your own country, while its Amazon listing says otherwise
CyberGhost's own pages give two different messages about streaming from another country. Its help pages say to stay in your own, and its store listing promises the opposite.
| CyberGhost page | What it says |
|---|---|
| Fire TV streaming and Prime Video help | Use a server in the country where you are. Circumventing geographic restrictions breaches its Terms of Service. |
| Amazon Appstore listing (US) | Users will "never see another 'not available in your region' warning again" |

These are CyberGhost's positions, not a description of what works. The research scores above show how its servers do in practice.
CyberGhost's prices and 45-day refund: longest of the seven, website purchases only
CyberGhost gives a 45-day money-back guarantee on plans of 6 months or longer, and 14 days on monthly plans. The other six VPNs we cover give 30 days, each on its own conditions. The guarantee covers website purchases only: CyberGhost says a plan bought inside its Fire TV app is managed by Amazon, and Amazon Appstore Support decides refunds. So buy on its website.
On 6 October 2026, an EU visitor saw CyberGhost's two-year plan, with 2 extra months, at €2.19 a month. In euros, only Private Internet Access's three-year plan had a lower first-term monthly price. ExpressVPN, Surfshark, NordVPN and Proton VPN were more expensive, on terms of different lengths, and IPVanish showed US dollars. The pricing page also showed a countdown timer.
That price covers the first term only, and the last column of the table shows what each plan renews at. The 6-month plan has the same 45-day window as the two-year plan, so it is the smaller commitment if you only want to check one service.
| Plan | Per month | First payment | Then renews at |

CyberGhost is listed by Kape, with ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access
Kape lists CyberGhost among its brands, and CyberGhost's App Store seller is Cyberghost SRL. ExpressVPN's profile on Kape explains the London company that lists CyberGhost, ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access. This profile does not cover CyberGhost's privacy policy or audits.
The three Kape VPNs differ in ranking, refunds and devices. ExpressVPN is first for streaming, with a 30-day refund and 10 to 14 devices at once. Private Internet Access is sixth, with 30 days and unlimited devices, and CyberGhost is seventh, with 45 days and 7 devices. All seven VPNs side by side compares owners, refunds and apps.
CyberGhost suits Hulu viewers who want a 45-day refund, not BBC iPlayer or Disney+ viewers
CyberGhost fits a viewer who mainly watches Hulu (US) with a US server, on a Fire OS 6 stick or an Android TV, with 7 devices or fewer. For BBC iPlayer, Disney+, Apple TV or a Vega OS stick, pick another VPN.
| Your situation | CyberGhost? | Why | Better pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Several services, or not sure yet | No | Last of seven in our streaming ranking | ExpressVPN, first of the seven |
| Mostly Hulu (US) | Yes, with a US server | 88% with Hulu (US), its best service | ExpressVPN or Surfshark (100% each) |
| Netflix US, UK or Japan | Possible: some evidence says Netflix blocked it | 69%, 70% and 70% | IPVanish, which leads our Netflix ranking (83% across libraries), NordVPN for the US (87%), Proton VPN for the UK (91%) and Japan (85%) |
| BBC iPlayer (UK) | Not well | 33%, the lowest of six with a score | ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark or Proton VPN (100% each) |
| Disney+ | No | 35% | ExpressVPN, NordVPN or IPVanish (99% each) |
| Prime Video, HBO Max or YouTube TV | Not known | Not enough data in our research | Prime Video: ExpressVPN (95%), NordVPN or Surfshark (94%). HBO Max: ExpressVPN or NordVPN (100%) |
| A Vega OS Fire TV Stick | Not found | No Vega OS app found | ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark, Proton VPN or IPVanish, which all have one |
| An Apple TV | No | No Apple TV app | ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark or Proton VPN (tvOS 17), IPVanish (tvOS 18) |
| A Roku, Samsung or LG TV | Only through a router or a plugged-in device | CyberGhost has no app for these TVs | A streaming device with the app, or a VPN router |
| More than 7 devices at once | No | 7 is the lowest limit we cover | Surfshark or IPVanish (no limit), NordVPN or Proton VPN (10) |
| A long refund window | Yes | 45 days on plans of 6 months or longer, website purchases only | Every other VPN we cover: 30 days |
| The lowest first-term price in euros | Nearly | As an EU visitor saw it on 6 October 2026, only Private Internet Access's three-year plan was cheaper per month in euros | Private Internet Access, the lowest first-term monthly price in euros we recorded |

Quick questions
- Does CyberGhost work with Netflix?
- Yes, but it scores lower than most VPNs. In our research (October 2026), CyberGhost has a research score of 64% for Netflix across all libraries, 69% for the US and 70% for the UK and Japan. Our Netflix ranking puts it last of seven. Netflix says VPNs are not supported on its ad-supported plan or for live events.
- Does CyberGhost work with BBC iPlayer?
- No, not well. In our research (October 2026), CyberGhost has a research score of 33% with BBC iPlayer (UK), while ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN all score 100%. The BBC says iPlayer will not play when it detects a possible VPN or proxy. For iPlayer, pick one of those four.
- Why is CyberGhost not working with Disney+?
- CyberGhost has the lowest research score with Disney+ of the seven VPNs we cover: 35% in our research (October 2026), against 99% for ExpressVPN, NordVPN and IPVanish. Our research shows whether a VPN worked, not why. Disney+ error 73 says the content is not available in your current location and tells anyone using a VPN or similar method to turn it off. For Disney+, pick one of those three.
- Does CyberGhost have an Apple TV app?
- No. CyberGhost's App Store listing (version 8.8.0, 2 October 2026) names iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple Vision only. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN have Apple TV apps for tvOS 17 or later, and IPVanish for tvOS 18. For an Apple TV, pick one of those five VPNs, or set up CyberGhost on a router by hand, which router makers say covers every connected device.
- How do I use CyberGhost on a Samsung or LG smart TV?
- You cannot install CyberGhost on a Samsung or LG TV: it has no Roku, Samsung or LG app, and says its Smart DNS no longer works with streaming. Plug in a Fire TV Stick on Fire OS 6 or later, or an Android TV box, and run CyberGhost's app there. Router makers say a router set up by hand with OpenVPN also covers the TV.
- Does CyberGhost work on a Firestick or Fire TV Stick?
- Yes, on Fire OS 6 or later, but no CyberGhost Vega OS app was found. Newer sticks such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Select run Vega OS. Open Settings › My Fire TV › About first: AFTVnews says a version starting with 1 or 2 means Vega OS. Buy on CyberGhost's website, not in the app, then sign in on the stick.
