How we make money.
WhatWorks is free to read. When some readers buy a VPN through a link on our site, the provider pays us a commission. Here is how that works, and how we keep it away from our verdicts.
Where the money comes from
Affiliate commissions.
Some links from WhatWorks to VPN providers are affiliate links. If you buy a subscription after following one, the provider may pay us a commission. You pay the same price either way.
Links to a provider take you first to its profile on WhatWorks, with the facts about its apps, features and prices, and from there to the provider's own site.
What money never changes.
Our editorial team decides every verdict and ranking with the criteria in our methodology.
Commissions never change
- Verdicts: works, works with conditions, doesn't work, or not clear yet.
- Rankings and the criteria behind them, printed on every page that compares VPNs.
- Which providers appear on a page: that follows the criteria for the page, not whether a provider pays us.
- What we write about a provider, including its limits and problems.
We don't accept
- Sponsored articles or advertorials.
- Paid placements, or paying to move up a ranking.
- Letting a company see or approve a page before it is published.
Prices and deals
Every price carries the date we checked it.
Providers change prices and offers often. We show the date next to each price, and the provider's own checkout is the final word.
